So Far, So Good

I have been pleasantly surprised by the content of the sermons in this year's Conference. Every preacher that I have heard, with the exception of Bailey Smith, has really done a pretty good job. Even Junior Hill endeared himself to me quite a bit this year. He is an exceptional story-teller but also stuck to the text and preached the bible. David Allen was the first speaker on Saturday morning, and if you ask me, has been the standard of measure for every one of these men. There have been a few that have not preached expositionally and yet the sermons were not unbiblical treatments of texts (with the exception of Bailey Smith). Not even Al Mohler's sermon was really all that expositional, even though he did exactly as I expected him and gave us a culture digest with a prescription for cure at the end. By the way, next time you see him, ask him how he liked Steve Gaines' message. David Jeremiah has been phenomenal as usual. Again, I am impressed with the caliber of the sermons this year, with the exception of Bailey Smith.

Largely, as you might have guessed, the sermons have not had a reformed influence. But as we all know, I do not hold that up as a watershed issue among preachers as long as the sermon is biblical and honors God. I feel that most here have done that, with the exception of Bailey Smith. There has been a lot of talk about personal evangelism, as you also might have guessed, but that has been something that has been feeding my soul and increasing my desire and strengthening my boldness. I am thankful to God for what I am hearing, with the exception of Bailey Smith.

Hopefully, I'll have a chance to post my observations about the Conference before we leave here tomorrow. And just to make sure you got it...with the exception of Bailey Smith.
